Geometric patterns or "color blocking" can look add dimension to a room. Block ideas include stone, metallic blocking, diamond shapes or gingham. It's a good solution for a focal wall. An added plus with painting these finishes, is that the size of the blocks can be customized to fit your space.
Nothing transforms walls like glazing. Using a sheer mixture of paint, we can create a multitude of beautiful finishes depending on the tools that are used. Color washes add depth, ragging adds texture and brushes can create silk or linen looks. Glazing adds depth and beauty to walls and can be used to antique furniture and trims. Add a little metallic to add some pizzazz. Glazes can also be manipulated to simulate wood grain, marble and stone effects.
Sometimes you want something with a little personal touch. That’s where hand painting can really make a difference. Adding vines or branches in a bathroom, painted columns in a living room or a mural in a kids' room can make a personal statement. Unlike stenciling, an idea is sketched then painted by hand to create the image. Other hand painted ideas include adding gold to a crown molding, motifs to furniture or picking out detail on paneling.
Incorporating patterns in decorative painting brings it to a totally different level. All over patterns are lovely, but so is a random sprinkled stencil. A stenciled border can draw interest in a room that doesn’t have a crown or use it on a tray ceiling. Using stencils on furniture to create something unique. We create our own stencils so if you see some thing you like, we can re-create it for you.
Stripes are an amazing way to decorate a room. Not only can they make a room feel larger, they can also make it seem taller too. Stripes give a tailored look to a room. They make a great under layer for an all over pattern, giving it a wallpaper look, but without the seams. The great thing about painting stripes as opposed to wallpaper is that you can fit them to your room perfectly. Typically, you will see vertical stripes, but horizontal stripes bring a modern flair to a room. Stripes can be solid or have an overglaze which softens the look. Add a metallic pinstripe for a little zing.
Originally created by the Venetians, Venetian Plaster is a mix of lime plaster and marble dust. Venetian Plaster is like no other finish. It can resemble stone, as it adds dimension using layers of trolled on material. It has a great translucency that paint can’t match. There are many Venetian Plasters available today. Depending on the material and the application different effects can be created. Most have a protective top coat or wax in which metallics can be added to if desired. Textured Plaster is another way to get a tactile feel to the wall. It can be painted, glazed or antiqued. It is great to use when you’re looking for that Old World look.
A customized painted furniture piece is another way to personalize your living space.
